Shriner’s Hospital for children has opened a new pediatric burn unit inside Dayton Children’s Hospital. For more than 50 years, the group operated their own facility in Cincinnati.
The new partnership with Children’s allows Shriner’s to focus more on treatment, according to Randall White, administrator for Shriner’s Children’s Ohio.
“This gives us an opportunity to downsize our facility and really, instead of paying for bricks and mortar, heating and air and electricity, is to put the money towards the mission, which is ... taking care of the kids," he says.
Planning for the move began in 2019 and White says most of the staff moved with the hospital to Dayton.
"We've hired people here in the Dayton and the surrounding area and a lot live between here and Cincinnati. It's been nothing but very positive from the vast, vast majority of our employees that have come up here, and the new employees that we've hired."
The Dayton facility is one of four specialized Shriner’s burn units in the country. The hospitals serve patients from around the world.
