Gregg Hurwitz returned to the show to discuss his latest Orphan X thriller. The title, "Prodigal Son," provides a hint of what to anticipate in this one. The author's protagonist, Evan Smoak, has a back story that prominently employs the device of his orphanhood. He was rescued from a bad situation as a boy and then underwent extensive training to transform him into an assassin who was working for the government in a top secret program. Smoak has no memories of his parents. If he has any siblings he is not aware of them. Hurwitz gives his readers a large serving of Smoak's back story in this one. He might just have a family after all.
This series is known for high tech gadgetry. "Prodigal Son" carries that promise forward with lots of computer hacking and drone wizardry. The term "page turner" gets overused but in this case it certainly describes this novel. It was unputdownable!
