With winter settling in across the Miami Valley, the Montgomery County Veterans Services Commission is providing winter coats to local veterans in need. The coats will be distributed on January 15, in Dayton.
Kim Frisco is executive director for the commission.
“We're looking to focus on those veterans that are absolutely in need," she says. "Our veteran has to have an honorable or under honorable conditions discharge paperwork, which is a DD214. They must be a Montgomery County resident, since these are taxpayers dollars and they have to be at or below two hundred and fifty percent of the federal poverty level."
This is the first time for the program, and Frisco says it began as a way to help veterans through the pandemic.
And she says the Montgomery County Veterans Services Commission has other programs in place to help with financial aid, food assistance, and other services.
