Children’s story time can be an opportunity to teach essential life skills to kids - it can broaden their vocabulary, teach social skills, and set them up for successful lifelong learning.

However, the coronavirus pandemic has kept kids from engaging in group storytimes.

And some working parents could probably use a little help. So, the Dayton Metro Library has come up with a few clever options.

If you have a telephone you can call in to hear stories. The library runs a dial-a-story phone line that children can call. On the line is a rotating series of short stories read by library staff, volunteers and authors.

There are also live, online storytimes on the internet.

For that, you’ll need a computer and online access, but the service is free. Each session lasts about 15-20 minutes, and is sessions filled with stories, songs, rhymes and interactive activities. The library says advance registration is required.

There’s more information on the library’s website, and on their Facebook page.
