Anna Quindlen's book "A Short Guide to a Happy Life" was a mega-best-seller when it was issued 20 years ago. It was such a hot item that when Anna was scheduled to come through our area she had to cancel her appearance because the bookstore didn't have any copies of the book left to sell or to sign-the publisher was rushing to do a second printing. Even though she was no longer coming through Dayton she honored my interview request.
The book began as a commencement speech. Quindlen got so many requests for it that she decided to turn it into a book. Her message continues to resonate with readers, it was just re-issued this year in a new 20th anniversary hardcover edition.
