Governor Mike DeWine and state officials have announced significant new steps to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
At a press conference this afternoon DeWine announced new regulations banning gatherings of more than a hundred people. And at the end of the school day on Monday, all students in Ohio will be sent home for a three-week spring break.
"As we can see, we’re in a crisis situation now," says Dr. Amy Acton, director of the Ohio Department of Health. "We’re moving quickly. Taking decisive action now will greatly slow down this disease and stop this trajectory."
She says closing schools has been a terribly hard decision.
The state is also issuing regulations to stop all visitation to nursing homes and psychiatric facilities.
"What I would say to all Ohioans is, this will not last forever," says Governor Mike DeWine. "This is temporary. Everything we are doing is temporary. We will get back to normal in Ohio."
