It was several years after Conrad’s Corner began on WYSO that Conrad Balliet, who recently died at the age of 91, met a person who would become his dear friend for the next 20 years - former WYSO News Director Aileen LeBlanc. She created a show called Sounds Local, and Conrad was a frequent contributor. Today LeBlanc brings us her memories of Conrad and then we’ll hear from other colleagues who shared his love of poetry.
The City of Dayton established the center in 1987 “in an effort to ease the impact of community conflicts on public resources.” Dayton Mediation Center intervenes in more than a thousand conflicts between residents, neighborhood organizations, businesses, employers and employees, schools, law enforcement agencies and even the local court system. Today on WYSO Weekend, we welcome back to the program Kathleen Fennig, a registered Nurse at Miami Valley Hospital. She also works with Wright State University as a clinical research specialist in maternal fetal medicine, and serves as a volunteer with the Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF). The latter work is something Fennig has been passionate about since she herself became a lung cancer survivor. Kathleen has shared her personal story with us before on WW and today she’s back to talk about this year’s Free To Breathe annual 5K Run/Walk to support lung cancer research. The event will return to The Dayton Raceway at Hollywood Gaming. Joining us in the conversation is Aubrey Rhodes - she’s Vice President of Community Engagement and Outreach with Lung Cancer Research Foundation. Rhodes begins the conversation with praise for the work Fennig is doing for the organization.
