First Friday in Downtown Dayton is tonight. It is the perfect time to celebrate downtown's "independents" - mom-and-pop shops that dominate the consumer-based businesses. Galleries and museums have special activities. Bars and restaurants feature food and drink specials, and many host live performances later that night. Retailers offer hand-selected merchandise and carefully curated clothing, home goods, accessories, cosmetics, and more.
Time Cycles But Never Back to Now. Mixed-media artist Ann B. Kim has this deeply personal solo exhibition consisting of videos, installation, mixed media paintings, and photography. These reflect her musings on the irreversibility of time and its cycle as she searches for a sense of redemption, acceptance, letting go, and carpe diem while feeding her lifelong need to pose and pretend to be an amateur explorer and anthropologist. This is at the Dutoit Gallery and an artist opening reception is tonight, 6-9PM.
Michael & Sandy Bashaw play a varied song list including jazz, folk, blues and Celtic music as well as songs written by the Beatles, Bob Dylan and themselves. With Michael on flute and harmonica and Sandy on guitar, these native Daytonians are an important part of Dayton's music scene. This performance is Sunday, 2 to 3:30pm
The sympathetic Beatles ride a yellow submarine to the occupied Pepperland, where the Blue Meanies have no chance against the Fab Four's groovy tunes. This Beatles classics has been wonderfully restored for its 50th Anniversary...and there is a one-time special screening on Sunday, 3pm .
The Levitt Pavilion in downtown Dayton needs volunteers. They are on the lookout for enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers who want to use their love of music and people to enhance the visitor experience at Levitt Pavilion Dayton.
