Lavelle, top, celebrates with teammates Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe after scoring her side's second goal during the Women's World Cup in Decines, France, on Sunday, July 7.

Rose Lavelle, midfielder for the World Cup-winning U.S. Women's National Team, is returning to her hometown of Cincinnati Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, to be honored for her success.

On Thursday, Lavelle will be recognized during halftime of FC Cincinnati's 8 p.m. game against D.C. United at Nippert Stadium. At noon on Friday, Lavelle will join Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley at Fountain Square for a party to honor her success on the field and for her unabashed love of her hometown.

"I always say that Cincinnati is the city that built me into the player and the person that I am today," Lavelle previously said. "I think the support that I get from Cincinnati means so much to me because this city means so much to me."

Lavelle graduated from Mount Notre Dame High School, where she was a standout player, and was the No. 1 National Women's Soccer League draft pick in 2017. She currently is a midfielder with the NWSL's Washington Spirit.

During the 69th minute of the recent Women's World Cup, Lavelle dribbled down the field to score the team's second and final goal of the game, where the U.S. beat the Netherlands 2-nil and took home their fourth World Cup title. At that time, the crowd gathered at The Banks' World Cup Viewing Village "went nuts," Tracy Schwegmann with The Banks told WVXU

At press time, tickets were still available to Thursday's game. Friday's event is free and open to the public.
