Several tents housing the homeless line Third Street in Downtown Cincinnati.

Last week the City of Cincinnati shutdown and fenced off an area near Paul Brown Stadium that had been the site of a homeless camp. Now, city officials are looking at options for how to respond to the homeless camps that remain along Third Street and another encampment underneath a highway overpass near U.S. Bank Arena.

The vast majority of individuals experiencing homelessness in our region don't live on the streets. Most of them stay in shelters or couch-surf, shuttling between friends and family, unable to find affordable permanent housing.

But there are those who do live on the streets, who don't have friends or family they can stay with and don't like going to shelters. And many of them prefer to group together for safety and companionship.

Joining us to discuss possible ways to get people off the streets and into shelters or affordable housing are Associate Vice President of the Mental Health ACT Division with Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services, Debbie Demarcus; Mary Magdalen House Executive Director Cary Powell; and Strategies to End Homelessness Executive Director Kevin Finn.
