Online retail giant Amazon is planning a fulfillment center in Monroe that's expected to create 1,000 jobs if the deal moves forward. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) Wednesday approved a 10-year, 1.39 percent credit to incentivize the company. The TCA says the estimated value of the credits is $3.8 million. The actual value of the credit would be "based on jobs created and new payroll tax generated, as verified," says Public Information Officer Lisa Colbert.

The estimated payroll at the Monroe facility is $26.7 million annually by Dec. 31, 2020.

The City of Monroe supports the proposal but a spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

Amazon also did not return requests for comment.

"[Wednesday's] meeting of the Tax Credit Authority is an important step. We continue to work with the company and our local partners to move the project forward," says JobsOhio spokesman Matt Englehart.

The facility would be built in an industrial park near where State Route 63 meets I-75, close to the Cincinnati Premium Outlet Mall. Amazon is also planning a similar project in Cleveland.
