The biggest political story of the spring is abortion. That's thanks to the leaked majority opinion that indicates a majority of the U.S. Supreme Court is ready to overturn Roe vs Wade. In this week's episode of Snollygoster, Ohio's politics podcast from WOSU, hosts Mike Thompson and Steve Brown talk to Mike Gonidakis, president of Ohio Right to Life, about his efforts.

The bill follows a leak last week of a draft Supreme Court opinion that, if unchanged, would overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 case that federally legalized abortions.

The vote on the historic nomination was 53 to 47, with three Republicans voting with Democrats. When sworn in this summer, Jackson will be the first Black woman on the Supreme Court.

Sens. Murkowski and Romney said they'll vote to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson after the Judiciary Committee reached an 11-11 tie along party lines to advance her nomination to the Senate.

President Biden announced Judge Jackson, 51, will be his nominee to the Supreme Court. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman to serve on the high court.

At a White House event with Breyer, President Biden said it was his intention is to name a nominee to replace him by the end of February.

Behind the scenes, Breyer, 83, pushed and prodded his fellow justices for consensus. His decision gives President Biden his first opportunity to name a new justice to the court.

With the court already having heard arguments this term on abortion and guns, this case marks yet another politically charged issue that threatens to uproot decades of legal doctrine.

But the court upheld a separate mandate for almost all employees at hospitals, nursing homes and other health care providers that receive federal funds.

The two cases are in a preliminary posture, but how the court rules will very likely signal how these issues are ultimately resolved.
