President Biden's administration is scrambling to contain one of the first big political firestorms of his presidency as thousands of migrant children arrive at the border without their parents.

Tens of thousands of migrants, including asylum-seekers and unaccompanied children, have been turned away at the border since March. Now the administration wants to restrict asylum permanently.

The high court will allow the Trump administration's "Remain in Mexico" policy to stand across the entire southern border. The decision marks another immigration victory for the White House.

The 9th Circuit said the policy, which forces asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico, may violate the law. But judges were prepared to block the policy in two states only, starting next week.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals first ruled to uphold a lower-court's injunction on the controversial policy, but later the same day voted to suspend its own order to allow more time for arguments.

It has become nearly impossible for migrants at the southern border to win asylum. Even if they do get protection from a judge, in some cases they're still not allowed to stay in the country.
