As the COVID-19 pandemic continues and the country experiences an increasing number of natural disasters, the local Red Cross is putting out the call for help.

The Kincade Fire to the north and the Maria Fire in the south are 80% contained and should be fully under control this week. Evacuation orders for about 190,000 Californians have been lifted.

Gov. Gavin Newsom is freeing up state aid as high winds fuel two major fires across the state. The Kincade Fire in Sonoma County has burned 30,000 acres, prompting evacuation orders for some 180,000.

The National Weather Service in Houston said the amount of rainfall in Houston and Galveston on Thursday was "one for the record books." At least four deaths have been blamed on the storm.

With maximum sustained winds of about 90 mph, Dorian was a Category 1 storm when its eye crossed over Cape Hatteras. It is now moving northeast at 24 mph.

The Category 2 hurricane is just off the coast, and its heavy winds and rains are hammering the Southeast. "If you don't need to be out," South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster says, "don't go out."
