The resolution charges President Trump with "incitement of insurrection." Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he will not reconvene the Senate early for a trial to remove Trump from office.

The bill cites President Trump's attempts to intervene in the vote counting of the Nov. 3 election, as well as his language to supporters in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6. Read the resolution.

"I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with our Constitution," the vice president wrote on Tuesday evening.

With nine days left in the Trump presidency, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats are forging ahead with plans to remove Trump from office.

More than half of House Democrats back articles of impeachment and are pressing leaders to reconvene next week to vote on them. Leaders warn if the president isn't removed they will proceed.

More than a dozen Republican senators originally said they would object to at least one state's election results. After the violence that ensued Wednesday, that number was reduced by about half.
