The state of Ohio’s investigation into the House Bill 6 nuclear power plant corruption scandal continues, in spite of the suspected suicide of the former public utilities commission chair.

Ohio’s electric customers were charged more than $100 million to subsidize two unprofitable coal plants in 2020.

More than 60 names are on the potential witness list for the state in the trial of former Public Utilities Commission of Ohio chair Sam Randazzo and former FirstEnergy executives Chuck Jones and Michael Dowling.

The request from the Ohio Consumers' Counsel comes after Attorney General Dave Yost advised the PUCO to halt four investigations related to the nuclear power plant bailout law known as House Bill 6.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and state prosecutors announced 27 charges for Sam Randazzo, Michael Dowling and Chuck Jones.

Randazzo is requesting his trial be transferred from Cincinnati to Columbus citing that many of the witnesses the defense may call live in Columbus.

Randazzo, 74, was charged with 11 counts, including one count of conspiring to commit travel act bribery and honest services wire fraud, two counts of travel act bribery, two counts of honest services wire fraud, one count of wire fraud and five counts of making illegal monetary transactions.
