A letter is being sent to Donald Trump Jr. asking him to testify as early as next week before the Senate Judiciary Committee in an open session. The president's son has said he's willing to testify.

"I had been reading about [Clinton] scandals that people were probably underreporting for a long time, so maybe it was something that had to do with one of those things," Donald Trump Jr. told Fox.

Earlier on Monday, the White House was defending President Trump's eldest son following another Timesreport the meeting was intended to get damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump Jr. gave shifting explanations of a meeting last summer with a Kremlin-linked lawyer, also attended by Trump's then-campaign chairman, Paul J. Manafort, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
