It’s an opera about a woman imprisoned by psychological demons. It was filmed at Alcatraz. And, if all that isn't cool enough, later this month you’ll be able to watch it in 15-minute episodes on your mobile device, computer or TV.
Composer Lisa Bielawa’s opera Vireo: The Spiritual Biography of a Witch’s Accuser is thought to be the first opera conceived, written, produced and packaged for digital consumption. Southern California's KCET was a creative partner in the production of Vireo and will release all 12 episodes May 31 for free, on-demand streaming.
The opera's broadcast premiere on KCET TV and Link TV nationwide, with screenings in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City, is scheduled for June and July.
