Saturday, July 16th:

1:00 PM, Opera and More with Christopher Purdy

Puccini's La rondine (The Swallow) debuted in Monte Carlo in 1917, but its music is somehow still a little uncertain, even after nearly a century.

The opera was met with public approval and even some love from the press, but it remained the un-assuming cousin to Puccini's larger, more blockbuster-style, works. In fact, Puccini's own editor Tito Ricordi referred to the score as: "bad Lehar." (refering to the opera composer Franz Lehar)

Thankfully, this opera has received something of a revival since the 1990s and continued play in recent years. Listen this Saturday as Christopher Purdy introduces an opera set in the salon of a Parisian courtesan. It's full of romance, heartbreak, and scandal; it's nothing short of perfectly operatic.

6:00 PM, The American Sound with Jennifer Hambrick

Leonard Bernstein's witty Divertimento for Orchestra

7:00 PM, Fretworks with John Rittmeyer

Concerto for Four Guitars by Vivaldi, played by The Romeros
