The Early Interval performs live on Classical 101.

It’s a watershed season for Columbus’ resident early music ensemble, The Early Interval. This year marks the silver anniversary of the ensemble’s annual Twelfth Night concerts and the Early Interval’s first season under new artistic leadership.

The group's members marked both occasions recently with a live performance and conversation on Classical 101.

Last Friday, on the eve of their 25th annual Twelfth Night concerts, the members of the Early Interval – Jim Bates, Sean Ferguson, Alexandra Vargo, Lyz Liddell and Tamara Seckel – joined me live on Classical 101 to talk about the Twelfth Night tradition and to give us a taste of the revelry and great music lined up for their concerts.

Listen below to The Early Interval's performance of Laissez paitres vos bêtes from Michel-Richard de Lalande's Symphonie des Noëls. And hear the ensemble’s coordinator, Jim Bates, talk about their plans for the future:

So if you happen to hear early music in some unexpected places around Columbus, it may well be Columbus’ own Early Interval.

And here's another selection from the Early Interval's live performance on Classical 101, Michael Praetorius' Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern - "How lovely shines the morning star" - a song for the holiday of Epiphany. Soprano Tamara Seckel sings the solo role:
