Classical 101 has been the broadcast home of the Columbus Symphony since long before I got here in 1991. I was delighted to inherit responsibility for these broadcasts about 20 years ago. The recordings are made by Ed Thompson, and the broadcast preparation is by WOSU's own Kevin Petrilla and Eric French.

Highlights of the 2017 season include: Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem (the opening broadcast this Sunday), Ludwig van Beethoven and Russian marathons, a Klezmer festival, Steve Mackey's Four Iconoclastic Episodes, the phenomenal violinist Elena Urioste joining the Columbus Symphony for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, an all-Mozart program, performances by violinists Rachel Barton Pine and Gil Shaham and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3.
Mind you, these are just a few of the highlights!
Music director Rossen Milanov brings magnificent skill and passion to performances by the Columbus Symphony. The superb Columbus Symphony Chorus, conducted by Ronald Jenkins, sings music by Verdi, Mahler and Modest Mussorgsky.
