School buses transport more than 700,000 Ohio children to and from school every day.
Statistically, riding a bus is safer than being transported by car, but a fatal school bus accident in August near Dayton prompted Gov. DeWine to assemble a working group to come up with safety recommendations.
The group stopped short of mandating seatbelts.
Gov. DeWine’s working group recommends no seatbelts on school buses following months of study, as well as another deadly accident involving a charter bus.
