In 2010, journalist Michele Norris had an idea: ask people to distill their thoughts, feelings and fears about race and identity down to six words that could fit on a postcard.
Today, more than 500,000 personal narratives from all 50 states and 96 countries have been collected.
Norris has curated the narratives into a book: Our Hidden Conversations: What Americans Really Think About Race and Identity
