Trains were an important part of the growth of the United States. From westward expansion to military transport during World War II.
The middle part of the twentieth century saw passenger rail lose ground to the interstate highway system and the automobile.
While passenger rail isn’t what it once was, trains have not gone away.
The romance of the rails is alive and well and can be found on tourist railways and railroad museums.
Robert Van Camp is with us today. He’s the Executive Producer of the Emmy award-winning PBS program Great Scenic Railway Journeys joins us to talk about some of America’s great scenic railway journeys.
