Tech Tuesday: The impact of technology on tipping

Tipping is a familiar and long held tradition in the U.S.

Many consumers are confused by a growing list of appeals for tips, from vehicle repairs to takeout food.

Tech payment companies Square, Toast and others have devised technology to tack on tip options for every conceivable service and that has helped bolster service workers and others, however consumers are unsure about the amounts and when to tip.

The Federal Trade Commission plans to weigh in on so-called junk fees.

The publishing industry’s premiere Children’s Book Fair just wrapped up in Bologna, Italy, with 80 selections from 30 countries.

Top titles included digital books and multi-media offerings – although not as many as in pre-pandemic years – along with traditional reads.

New this year is a digital libraries category.

The Federal Communications Commission has unveiled its largest-ever push to make broadband more affordable.

And it’s an effort that will make $66 million worth of grants available to help bridge the digital divide, especially in historically underserved or unserved communities.
