Homeless students in public education

Youth Academic Advocates are an integral part of the way school districts accommodate homeless students, but a recent decision by the Columbus City School District has reclassified these workers as civil service employees, eliminating their union status. In response, the Columbus teacher’s union has filed labor practices charges against the district.

We’ll take a look at the controversy surrounding this change and the challenges public schools face assisting homeless students in K-12.
