Department Of Justice's China initiative And Consequences For Academic Freedom

The Justice Department has come under increasing criticism over a string of attention-grabbing cases in which they have gone after university professors over their ties to China.

The cases fall under the DOJ’s broader China initiative that began in 2018 in an attempt to take seriously the problem of economic espionage and trade secret theft by China. However many say in their pursuit of academics the DOJ has gone too far.

Coming up, we consider the China initiative, the real threat of technological espionage and the consequences to academic freedom.
