Nursing homes and other long-term care facilities account for one-third of all COVID deaths in the U.S. to date. That’s causing families, health care advocates and lawmakers to rethink care options going forward.

Experts say there must be a reimagining of the entire system, from changing how institutions are funded and designed to expanding at-home and community-based options.
