Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost will serve as special prosecutor in the fatal shooting of Andre Hill, an unarmed Black man, by Columbus Police Officer Adam Coy last week.
State and federal authorities have teamed up to investigate Coy's use of deadly force, as well as his failure to activate a body camera and administer first aid. This is the second case in less than three weeks of a law enforcement officer in Columbus fatally shooting a Black man.
Police Chief Tom Quinlan joined Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther, Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin and others in calling for Coy’s immediate termination. A disciplinary hearing for Coy is scheduled for Monday morning.
