A 1965 report titled “The Negro Family: The Case for National Action” at first was understood as a roadmap to federal policies to address the systemic racism that gripped the nation.

But the controversial report later came to be understood as a rationalization for blaming Black Americans for the housing, employment, and educational inequities they faced.

The theme has been debunked, but the underlying inequities persist. Today on All Sides: How Black lives, their livelihoods and their property are valued in the U.S.
