Women Of Color In The Suffrage Movement

Women's Suffage office in Ohio

Women's Suffage office in Cleveland.

The history books are full of stories about the women who marched arm-in-arm to win the right to vote. Most of the heroes of the day were white women of means.

The actions of women of color tell a compelling story as well, one tainted by racism and displays intended to garner their support while denying their participation or credit.

Today on All Sides with Ann Fisher: the unequal struggle for voting rights as the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment approaches.

Guests:

  • Elaine Weiss, journalist and author of "The Woman's Hour: The Great Fight To Win the Vote."
  • Megan Wood, Director of Cultural Resources for the Ohio History Connection
  • Tammy Brown, PhD. in history, associate professor, department of global and intercultural studies, Miami University of Ohio
