Smart Columbus self-driving shuttles are coming to Linden.

Residents in the Linden and Hilltop areas of Columbus have heard promises and solutions before. Over decades, they’ve watched their neighborhoods slide further into poverty, homelessness, joblessness and crime.

They top the city’s list of “critical” areas, identified as the ones most in need. Yet activists from both neighborhoods say they are “cautiously optimistic” about the latest all-hands-on-deck approach to tackling these problems.

They point to new building projects, big cash infusions and stepped-up city services. But, they worry their climbing home values will attract outside buyers, lead to gentrification, and elbow them out of the way.

Today on All Sides with Ann Fisher: transforming struggling neighborhoods.

Guests:

  • Mark Ferenchik, reporter, The Columbus Dispatch
  • Lawrence Calloway Jr., chair, South Linden Area Commission
  • Alison Goebel, executive director, Greater Ohio Policy Center
