Facebook has long collected outside data on its users, using it to monetize the social media site with targeted ads. That’s why, for example, an ad for camping equipment pops up on an individual’s Facebook page after he or she has shopped online for a backpack.
Facebook is changing that protocol by rolling out a tool that enables users to anonymize their data.
Ireland, South Korea and Spain are the first countries with access to the tool. Others will follow suit in the coming months.
