People head into the Franklin County Board of Elections to vote early Saturday before the Nov. 5, 2024, general election.

Ten candidates for three open Columbus City School board seats and three candidates for an open Columbus City Council seat have been certified for the May primary ballot.

The three Columbus City Council candidates are former Near East Side Commission Chair Kate Curry-Da-Souza, Columbus Property Action Team Attorney Tiara Ross and Immigration Attorney Jesse Vogel. They are running for Otto Beatty III's District 7 seat, which covers downtown and many of the surrounding neighborhoods.

Beatty chose not to run for the seat after being appointed last month to fill the vacancy left by Franklin County Prosecutor Shayla Favor.

Columbus resident Aurora Dasan and Stonewall Columbus Executive Director Densil Porteous did not qualify for the ballot.

The 10 candidates that qualified for the three open school board seats include:

  • Liz Caslin-Turner
  • Teresa Hannah
  • Patrick Katzenmeyer
  • Jermaine Kennedy
  • Janeece Keyes‐Shanklin
  • Karrie Lumpkin
  • Mounir F. Lynch
  • Kimberley Mason
  • Antoinette Miranda
  • Julie Trabold

Incumbent school board members Michael Cole, Ramona Reyes and Christina Vera are not seeking reelection.

The primary will narrow the fields to two candidates for each seat. That means six candidates for school board and two for the city council seat will advance to the general election.

Incumbent Columbus Councilmembers Rob Dorans, Emmanuel Remy and Christopher Wyche are running unopposed for their seats.

No other Columbus school board seats are up for reelection this year.

The primary election is scheduled to take place on May 6.
