Columbus City Council selects 10 finalists to fill Shayla Favor's seat in early 2025

Columbus City Council have chosen a list of 10 finalists to select from to fill the vacancy left by Councilmember Shayla Favor after she leaves office.

The council released the names on Friday afternoon.

Favor represents District 7, which covers downtown Columbus, Franklinton, Italian Village, Victorian Village, Harrison West, Fifth by Northwest, Olde Towne East, the Near East Side and the University District. Her replacement must live in the district.

Favor won the November election to become the next Franklin County Prosecutor.

Thirty-one people originally applied to fill Favor's seat.

Among the 10 finalists are Stonewall Columbus Executive Director Densil Porteous, outgoing Near East Area Commission Chair Kate Curry-Da-Souza. Local attorney and businessman Otto Beatty III, the stepson of U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty, is also on the list.

Council will hold a hearing for the finalists on Dec. 18.

Favor's replacement will be named early next year.
