Thirty-one people have applied to fill Shayla Favor's Columbus City Council seat. The deadline for application submissions was Monday.
Favor represents District 7, which covers downtown Columbus, Franklinton, Italian Village, Victorian Village, Harrison West, Fifth by Northwest, Olde Towne East, the Near East Side and the University District. Her replacement must live in the district.
Favor will become Franklin County's next prosecutor after winning the Nov. 5 election against Republican John Rutan.
Among those applying are Stonewall Columbus Executive Director Densil Porteous, outgoing Near East Area Commission Chair Kate Curry-Da-Souza and local attorney and businessman Otto Beatty III, the stepson of U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty.
City Council will name the finalists later this week. Council will then hold a hearing for the finalists on Dec. 18.
Council plans to name Favor's replacement in January.
All applicants must go through a verification process to confirm their eligibility. Those who meet established requirements will advance through the selection process.
