This week, we’re doing something a little different. We’ll be listening to WOSU's most recent Politics and a Pint event. Nothing gets the political conversation flowing better than a pint of good craft beer. Three political reporters and host Mike Thompson sat in front of a large crowd at a local brewpub and talked about this chaotic political season.
Karen Kasler of the Ohio Public Radio Statehouse News Bureau, Nalaly Fahmy of WCMH-TV, and Anna Staver of WOSU joined the discussion.
Snollygoster of the week
Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Republican members of the Ohio Ballot Board wrote and then approved highly loaded ballot language for the redistricting amendment. Voters will see a three-page summary that begins:
“The proposed amendment would: repeal constitutional protections against gerrymandering approved by nearly three-quarters of Ohio electors participating in the statewide elections of 2015 and 2018….”
Supporters of the amendment, of course, say it would do the opposite by using an independent commission to draw legislative district lines that better represent the state of Ohio. They argue that the language is designed to mislead and deceive voters and have asked the Ohio Supreme Court to order a rewrite.
