Digging Into The Democratic Debates

Another crowded round of Democratic primary debates took place this week. On the first night, candidates illuminated the divide between the moderate and progressive wings of the party. Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren fought back against the notion that their policies were too far left to win in a general election.

On night two, debaters set their sights on former Vice President Joe Biden, who is leading in many polls. Facing criticism from Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Cory Booker, and former HUD Secretary Julián Castro, Biden defended his record on health care, immigration, and crime policies.

Snollygoster Of The Week

Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder worked hard to pass the new law that will give $150 million a year in subsidies to Ohio’s two nuclear power plants owned by FirstEnergy Solutions. Now he's worried about the corrupting influence of Chinese businesses, which have an interest in Ohio's oil and gas industry, as part of an effort to overturn the law.

Meanwhile, The Columbus Dispatch found that Householder received over $25,000 from FirstEnergy during his 2018 primary campaign.
