In this week's episode:
Ohio Promise
As budget talks begin in the Ohio General Assembly, House Democrats unvieled their “Ohio Promise” plan this week. The agenda includes proposals for higher minimum wage, paid family leave, and health care security.
Democrats have limited political power, with a small minority in the chamber, but gained some leverage by helping to elect Republican Speaker Larry Householder. House Minority Leader Emilia Sykes says their priorities also align with some of Gov. Mike DeWine's agenda.
Snollygoster Of The Week
Ohio state Sen. Bill Coley has a creative solution to increase revenue for transportation projects without a traditional gas tax. His proposal calls for drivers to pay extra when they register their cars and then get a deduction at the pump.
His thinking is that some people, like his colleagues' "daughters," will forget to get the deduction, thereby increasing revenue without incrasing the tax.
