Laid Off
GM announced its plant in Lordstown will shut down production of the Chevy Cruze in March 2019. The company had been cutting shifts and thousands of jobs at the plant, and now the remaining 1,500 workers will lose their jobs. Almost 15,000 GM employees are slated to be laid off around the country.
Politicians have been busy pointing fingers: President Trump criticized Sen. Sherrod Brown for his lack of leadership, while Brown told Trump to stop talking and take action. But there is probably plenty of blame to go around.
Meanwhile, some are holding out hope that the plant can survive.
Let's Get Serious
Both Gov. Kasich and Sen. Brown say they are seriously considering a presidential run in 2020. Although Kasich stirred rumors he might run as an independent, he said decisively that "I'm a Republican." Brown says if he ran, his campaign would focus on workers.
