Mary Hoffman Archive: Vladimir Horowitz

Mary Hoffman became program director of WOSU-FM in 1966. Before her retirement thirty years later, Mary interviewed at length some of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.

She caught Maria Callas on the fly at Port Columbus airport. Beverly Sills caught in a drafty Ohio Theater dressing room. A jovial Arthur Fiedler chatted on the phone prior to a concert in St. John's Arena. Igor Stravinsky was in Columbus to conduct the Columbus symphony in his Rite of Spring and Symphony of Psalms.

Hoffman recently downsized and moved into a new home. You bet she's alive and well. Mary continued a long career in the travel business. Her boxes of reel to reel tapes made their way to retired WOSU audio master Dave Gelfer. Dave digitized the reels and voila!

The Mary Hoffman Archive is born!

Mary Hoffman interviewed Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman, Luciano Pavarotti, Virgil Thomson, Joan Sutherland and Leonard RoseThere's lots more.
