Baseball’s opening Day is Monday, March 31. Everyone has a perfect record and thinks they’re a contender, especially the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians. Both teams made the playoffs last year and hope to return this year. We talked with beat reporters for both teams.
Despite making the playoffs three of the last four seasons, the Reds fired manager Dusty Baker and promoted pitching coach Bryan Price to the post. The team will start the season with at least six players on the season with disabled list with injuries, including pitcher Aroldis Chapman, who was recently taken off the field on a stretcher after being hit in the face with a line drive. Cincinnati is also welcoming stolen base phenom center fielder Billy Hamilton to the major leagues full-time this season. For the scoop on the Reds, we talked with Cincinnati Enquirer reporter C. Like Cincinnati, expectations are high in Cleveland. The Indians were one of the biggest surprises in baseball last year. We asked Plain Dealer reporter Zack Meisel (@ZackMeisel) what he expects in the second year under manager Terry Francona. He also talked to Meisel about the club’s spring training and whether Danny Salazar or Ohio native Justin Masterson would be the ace of the pitching rotation.

Buckeye wrestler Logan Stieber (@_LogieBear_)won his third consecutive national title last week, which is a first in Ohio State history. Next season, Stieber will attempt to become only the fourth college wrestler to win four national titles. We caught up with the junior from northern Ohio to talk about a possible Olympic future, Ohio State wrestling and the Big Ten as a powerhouse in the sport.
