The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is building a case for a stolen 60-ton construction crane.

The crane was stolen near El Dorado Casinos at Scioto Downs on Parsons Avenue in Hamilton Township on Monday morning. The sheriff's office said in a statement that The Kent Power Company reported the highly unusual theft around 8 a.m.

An unknown person stole the 2019 Kenworth Long Boom National Crane valued at $500,000.

The crane is attached to a moving truck.

The sheriff's office said the suspect probably has considerable experience and specialized knowledge on how to operate the vehicle.

"Moreover, given its size and value, the 60-ton crane would be difficult to conceal and should be easily recognizable," the statement said.

Officials are asking people to call in tips about the theft at 614-525-3351.
