Columbus police shot a man Tuesday morning who has been identified as a suspect in the murder of his teenage daughter in Toledo.

Columbus police spokesman Sergeant James Fuqua says his department and Toledo police had been looking for Jones. Toledo police said they discovered 13-year-old Keimani Latigue dead on Monday. She had been missing since March 18.

Fuqua said police were near Dennison Avenue and West 2nd Avenue in Victorian Village when they spotted Jones just after 10 a.m.

According to Fuqua, a SWAT officer fired a gun at the suspect after what Fuqua called a brief interaction. A gun was found at the scene, although Fuqua said it was unclear if Jones pointed the gun or fired at police.

Brian Steel, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge No. 9, tells WOSU that Jones pulled out a gun.

Fuqua said Jones was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification is investigating the case, which is standard procedure when any officer's weapon is fired.

There's no word on the charges Jones is facing in connection with his daughter's death.
