A suspect in the 1992 murder of a 20-year-old Columbus-area woman has been extradited to Franklin County.
Franklin County sheriff's deputies brought 58-year-old Bruce Daniels back from Washington state on Wednesday. Daniels is charged in the death and rape of Amy Hooper.
Hooper was found naked, bludgeoned and stabbed to death in her Lincoln Village apartment in western Franklin County on March 9, 1992.
During a Thursday press conference, authorities said they used DNA evidence to identify Daniels as a person of interest last year. He had been living in Tumwater, Washington.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted Daniels in December. An arrest warrant for Daniels was filed in Franklin County on Dec. 4. He was arrested in Washington on Dec. 5.
"This case sends a clear message that we're never gonna give up, no matter how many years pass, we'll pursue the truth," said Franklin County Chief Deputy Rick Minerd.
"Amy Hooper's story didn't end in 1992. It lives on," Minerd said.
Hooper's sister, Sandy Green, called her sister loving, kind and someone with an infectious laugh.
"A beautiful woman was taken from this world," Green said.
