A 4-year-old girl was shot and killed while sleeping in a bedroom in the Blacklick area early Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 8000 block of Beardsley Avenue in Jefferson Township. The child was taken to a hospital, where she died a short time later.
Franklin County Sheriff's Office detectives said the incident appears to have been a targeted shooting.
Detectives investigating the incident said someone approached the residence and fired shots from the street into a bedroom. The girl was upstairs sleeping when she was shot.
The suspect or suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan.
Others were also inside the home, though officials have not said if anyone else was hurt.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to help with the investigation.
The child's name has not been released.
No arrests have been made at this time.
