The second murder trial of former Franklin County Sheriff's deputy Jason Meade has been rescheduled.
Jury selection was set to begin on Oct. 31, but has now been pushed back to Feb. 27, 2025.
Meade is on trial for the murder of Casey Goodson Jr. in Dec. of 2020. Meade was working with a U.S. Marshals task force on a fugitive search when he claims he saw Goodson waving a gun around in his car.
Meade then followed Goodson to a family home in the Northland area, where Meade shot Goodson in the back six times outside of the home. Meade claimed that Goodson had ignored his order to drop the gun.
Prosecutors and Goodson's family claimed Goodson was holding a sandwich bag in one hand and keys in the other when he was shot. They do not dispute that Goodson may have been holding a gun, as he had a concealed carry permit.
Meade was originally charged with two counts of murder and one of reckless homicide during his first trial, where he pleaded not guilty. That trial ended in a mistrial after the jury could not come to a unanimous decision on all three charges.
The prosecution has since dropped the first murder charge that claimed Meade intentionally murdered Goodson.
Mark Collins and Kaitlyn Stephens, Meade's attorneys, are also representing former Columbus police officers Adam Coy and Ricky Anderson.
Coy has been charged with murder, felonious assault and dereliction of duty for the deadly shooting of Andre Hill in Dec. of 2020. Coy's trial is set to start Oct. 21 after being delayed while Coy underwent treatment for cancer.
Anderson is charged with murder and reckless homicide in the deadly shooting of Donovan Lewis in 2022. Anderson's trial is set to begin May 5, 2025.
Coy and Anderson have both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
