A former purchasing assistant for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has been sentenced for his role in a fraud scheme.

Grant Bell was sentenced in Delaware County Common Pleas Court to two years of community control and fined $1,000. He also must pay $8,554 in restitution to the zoo and Ohio Auditor's Office, according to the Ohio Attorney General's Office.

Bell pleaded guilty to theft.

He is the son of Greg Bell, the zoo's former chief financial officer, who was sentenced in August to three years in prison for his role in a scheme to defraud the zoo of more than $2 million.

The zoo's former CEO, Tom Stalf, pleaded guilty in July to 15 felony counts for his role in the plot. He is scheduled to be sentenced in October.

Former zoo purchasing agent Tracy Murnane and former zoo marketing director Pete Fingerhut have pleaded guilty to charges related to the scheme and are scheduled to be sentenced in September and October, respectively.
