Columbus police shot and killed a man Thursday during a standoff on the Far West Side in which three officers were injured.

The Franklin County Coroner's Office on Friday identified the man as Benjamin Wheeler, 40.

Brian Steel, president of Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge No. 9, told WOSU that three officers were stabbed and are expected to recover. He said one spent the night at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center overnight.

Officers were dispatched to Cherryberry Drive near Norton and Hall roads at 4:30 p.m. on a domestic violence call.

Police said the suspect was barricaded at some point.

The suspect was pronounced dead around 9:45 p.m.

The officers involved in the incident have not been identified. Columbus police said Friday afternoon that each officer has at least 20 years of service but wouldn't be identifying them, citing Marsy's Law. That's the Ohio victim rights law that police have been using to shield officers names.

Police said the officers had non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating, which is standard procedure when an officer's weapon is fired.
