Columbus Landmarks released its most endangered buildings list for 2024.
The most visible building on the list may be the 16-story circular tower at Ohio State University East Hospital on Taylor Avenue north of East Broad Street.
Landmarks CEO Rebecca Kemper said her group is concerned that Ohio State could demolish the 53-year-old landmark.
Ohio State Wexner Medical Center spokeswoman Marti Leitch did not directly address Landmarks concerns when WOSU asked about them Thursday.
In a statement, she did say this: "Since The Ohio State University acquired East Hospital 25 years ago, the medical center has worked to meet the community’s health care needs with a full range of medical and surgical services, including a Level III Trauma Center. We have an ongoing commitment to providing innovative health care and improving health and wellness in the Near East Side."
Also on the Columbus Landmarks list are:
• A 1920’s era schoolhouse at 3680 Westerville Rd.
• The former Spaghetti Warehouse building at 397 W. Broad St. in Franklinton.
• The Sugar Shack building, a former live music venue at 1551 N. 4th St.
• Holy Rosary and St. John Catholic Church at 640-660 S. Ohio Ave.
Kemper said the buildings hold important historical significance for many diverse communities as landmarks to their identities.
